(Preservation of cultural assets)

The Danjiang Bridge is located at the mouth of the Tamsui River, which has had great military and commercial importance since the start of recorded history. As a consequence, these waters may hold many underwater cul-tural assets. In accordance with the project's environmental assessment pledges and the requirements of the Cultural Heritage Preservation Act, an exploratory survey of underwater cultural assets was performed within the scope of the main bridge's piers in 2015. With regard to terrestrial archeological and historic sites, because the left bank is close to suspected sites around Shisanhang and Wazihwei, and the Shalun and Youchekou archeo-logical sites are located within 500m of the project area on the right bank, an archeological test dig was per-formed every 50m within the areas of Bali connecting road bed excavation and levelling (including all excavation) during the design stage. In addition, archeological test digs and manual sample coring will be performed on both sides of the Bali connecting road in order to confirm that no cultural layers are found beneath this road section.
